1. Maputo Natural park (formerly known as Maputo Special Reserve) is a nature reserve in Mozambique. The reserve is located on Maputo Bay, approximately 100 kilometers southeast of the city of Maputo, Mozambique. The Reserve is 1,040 km2 (400 square mile) in extent and was originally proclaimed in 1932 to protect a small population of coastal elephants resident in the area. The reserve combines lakes, wetlands, swamp forests, grasslands and mangrove forests with a coastline that lies within the Maputaland Centre of Endemism. According to the latest data, the number of elephants in the reserve is about 400. Currently it forms part of the Usuthu-Tembe-Futi Transfrontier Conservation Area. Fauna: Includes +400 African elephants, Birds (Kingfisher, Fish Eagle and many more), zebra, antelope, crocodiles, hippos, small bucks (red duiker, suni, reedbuck and steenbok).

• 5Great tour with no planning required. Spent a full day looking for all the animals and found more than expected.

  I went during the winter season and it happened to rain a bit. That didn't chase the animals away. Picked up at the Radisson blu hotel at 6:30am. About an hour 15minutes drive. The tour guide was knowledgeable, the lunch was simple, the ride can get rough so I took a pillow. Zoom lenses help. Toilet is entering and exiting the park. I was glad to take a power bank with me and a towel. Well worth the trip!

  An exceptionally well-organized full-day safari that exceeded our expectations. We saw a great variety of animals, making it a truly memorable experience. Calisto, our guide from Maputo Tour Guides, was friendly, knowledgeable, and very accommodating — always happy to stop for photos or breaks. His expertise made us feel safe and added a lot of insight into animal behavior. A fantastic and educational experience — highly recommended!

  Calisto was a great driver! Our day was wonderful. We saw so many animals. Calisto had a great eye and was knowledgeable. We felt safe. The park was so beautiful. It’s a long day and it’s hot, but you need the windows open to see the animals and take photos. Calisto was accommodating to every pictures or break we requested.

  Visiting Maputo National Reserve was one of the most wonderful experiences during my trip to Mozambique. From the moment we entered the park, we were amazed by the fresh, clean atmosphere and the raw beauty of the landscapes. About Maputo

Maputo is the capital of Mozambique, a seaside city of tree-lined avenues, Portuguese-era buildings, lively markets and fresh prawns.

Maputo sits on a bay of the Indian Ocean in the far south of Mozambique, and until 1976 it was called Lourenço Marques. Its grid of wide avenues is lined with jacaranda and acacia trees and with colonial buildings of the early twentieth century, among them the domed railway station and the City Hall. The old Fortress, a stone fort begun in the eighteenth century, stands near the port, and the Central Market is a large hall of fruit, fish and spices.
