**Note: This tour is private except for the horse riding portion, as there may be other people in the group. Set out on an unforgettable excursion, beginning with a horse ride in the wild south of Mauritius, near the village of Riambel. After a 30-minute briefing, spend an hour riding along an almost deserted beach, hooves splashing through the shallows as the turquoise lagoon stretches to the horizon. After the adventure, stop at Grand Bassin, the sacred Hindu lake, where towering statues and serene temples are mirrored in the still water. You'll have the chance to visit the Black River Gorges National Park viewpoint, and witness a sanctuary of native forest and sweeping mountain vistas. Listen for birds in the canopy, breathe in the cool, fresh air, and take in panoramic views that reveal the untamed heart of Mauritius. A tour of the Southwest wouldn't be complete without to visit Chamarel 7-Coloured Earth, one of the most famous attractions in Mauritius.
**Note that the horseback riding may be done in the morning or afternoon, depending on availability, and the tides. The excursion begins with 1 hour horse ride along the beautiful beach of Riambel, in the South of the island. After a 30 minute briefing, you'll have the opportunity to ride along a 2.5km stretch of deserted, sandy beach. As you walk along the water’s edge, watch your horse's hooves print fresh tracks in untouched sand, while admiring the turquoise lagoon. Connect with nature, and enjoy the magic of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. All skill levels, from first-time riders to experts, are welcome. Children 4 years and older are welcome. Please note that the maximum weight per rider is 95kg.
Grand Bassin is a tranquil and serene crater lake considered sacred by the Hindu population. Discover the Hindu culture by visiting the temples around the lake and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surroundings. You will also be amazed by the tall statue of Shiva and the view from the highest temple. Be sure to watch out for the monkeys and wildlife. Note: It may not be possible to make this stop in the month of February or March as the area is also a pilgrimage site during the festival of Mahashivaratree.
Nature lovers will enjoy the incredible views of the Black River Gorges, the largest national park in Mauritius. Covering an area of 6754 hectares, the park is home to numerous endemic flora and fauna and provides visitors with beautiful hikes, with varying levels of difficulty. During your drive through the park and Plaine des Champagnes, you will also get to stop and admire Alexandra falls and viewpoint, and if they’re in season, like the locals, you’ll want to pick a few goyaves de chine!
Visit the popular Chamarel, the coloured earth site, where in addition to the geological wonders of the seven coloured dunes, you can view the Chamarel Falls, the most famous waterfall in Mauritius! And, make sure you stop by the giant tortoise pens before leaving the park!

Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius, a working harbour city with a big central market, a hilltop citadel and a waterfront of shops and cafés.
Port Louis lies on the north-west coast of Mauritius, at the foot of a ring of volcanic peaks. Founded in the 1730s by the French governor Mahé de La Bourdonnais, it is a mix of colonial buildings, mosques, temples and glass towers. The Central Market sells spices, fruit, vanilla and tea, and the Caudan Waterfront has shops, cafés and the Blue Penny Museum, which holds the island's rare early stamps.
