Ephesus, the very core of the Aegean in antiquity. This port-city, whose well-preserved remains are restored to their former glory, will offer you an unforgettable sight. Walking through this UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was one of the most important Greco-roman settlements and the most prominent trading center in the Mediterranean in ancient times, you’ll get to visit the odeon, the fountains, the temples, the brothel, and the glorious Celsus Library, which was the third biggest library of the ancient world, as well as the agora, the great theatre, the roman baths, the gymnasiums, and many others. Our route will lead you also to The Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world built around the perimeter of Ephesus. You’ll get to visit the ruins of the foundations of this marvelous construction from the Hellenistic Age.The Virgin Mary House, which is located on the top of the “Bulbul” mountain, 9 km ahead of Ephesus, is one of the other stops in our itinerary.
House of Virgin Mary is one of the pilgrimage centre of Christians and was also where Virgin Mary passed her time and died here. Pope Paul VI visited the shrine in 1967, and 'unofficially' confirmed its authenticity. You will have the chance to also go inside, the place is very quiet and you will be able to take a candle which you can light after walking through and say a prayer.
The Temple of Artemis was built in the 6th century BC, and such was its tremendous size, double the dimensions of other Greek temples including the Parthenon, that it was soon regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.Today only the foundations and a solitary column stand as a reminder of the site where once stood the greatest temple in the ancient Mediterranean.
You will explore an ancient city that well preserved so far.
