1. Leaving Baku in the morning, we will first of all go to the pink lake Masazir. Most often, it is in the morning that it shows us its ‘pink face’. Even the sand on the shore of this amazing lake is reddish in colour. The beauty of this lake is mesmerising and peaceful at the same time.

Baku is Azerbaijan's capital on the Caspian Sea, where a walled medieval old town sits beside oil-era mansions and glass towers shaped like flames.

The walled Old City, Icherisheher, is a UNESCO-listed maze of lanes with the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, both medieval. Beyond the walls, grand mansions from the oil boom of the late nineteenth century line the streets, and a long boulevard runs beside the Caspian. The three Flame Towers glow on the skyline, and Zaha Hadid's curving Heydar Aliyev Centre is a landmark of modern architecture.
