1. In the morning, your tour guide will pick you up at your hotel in SuZhou downtown or Suzhou train station, you will find a welcome signage. First stop is Tiger Hill. Tiger Hill is provided with a great many gorgeous scenes, historical sites, numerous towering ancient trees, and a Tiger Hill Pagoda on the top of the hill. You will find lots of historical sites some of which can be traced back over 2500 years to the founding of Suzhou. The Tiger Hill has been known as No. 1 Sight of Suzhou. It is a must for tourists. The great Song literary man Su Dongpo said, "It would be a pity if you had been to Suzhou but didn't get to visit the Tiger Hill." As a showcase of Suzhou and one of the first ten exemplary civilized tourist attractions of China.

2. Next to Suzhou Museum. It has been a highly-regarded regional museum with a number of significant Chinese cultural relics. The new Suzhou museum designed by world famous architect I.M.Pei with the area of over 10,700 square metres. Not only does the museum become a monumental design building in Suzhou, but also a significant construction, merging the traditional Chinese architectural design with the future.

3. After lunch, move on to Panmen Gate. The history of the Panmen Gate dates back to 514 AD. Built by Wu State during the spring and autumn period, Panmen is the only ancient city wall still intact in Suzhou. Panmen Scenic Area was built on the base of some historic sites by using the architectural structure of classical gardens. It is famous for its numerous historic relics and abundant human landscapes.

4. Continue your tour to Ouyuan Garden, built in the late 19th century by a couple, is now regarded as one of the classical gardens of Suzhou. In 2000, the garden, along with other 4 classical gardens in Suzhou, was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Surrounded on three sides by the Grand Canal, the garden has piers close to the front and back entrances. The housing complex is located in the middle and flanked by the East and West Garden. The complex consists of four buildings in succession. In the Garden, everything comes in pairs depicting the couples love for each other.

5. At last, you will go to Shantang Street, also called Seven-mile Shantang. Owing to its distinguished geographic location and convenient water and land transportation, Shantang Street was one of the streets which trade and culture were most highly developed in Ming and Qing dynasties, regarded as "the No.1 Ancient Street in China". The renovated Shantang Street becomes the place which shows the essence of natural views and human landscapes of Suzhou, which is rated as "the miniature of old Suzhou and the window of Wu culture".

About Suzhou

Suzhou, an old canal city west of Shanghai, is known for its classical gardens, whitewashed houses and stone bridges over narrow canals.

Suzhou has been a centre of wealth and culture for more than two thousand years, and its scholars and wealthy families built gardens as private retreats. Nine of them are inscribed by UNESCO, among them the Humble Administrator's Garden, the Lingering Garden and the Master of the Nets Garden, with rockeries, ponds, pavilions and zigzag corridors arranged to make small spaces seem large.
