The Church of Santo Spirito in Agrigento is part of the Cistercian Monastery of the same name, which was founded in the 13th century by the noblewoman Marchisia Prefoglio, whom I will tell you about later. 4. The Porta di Ponte, dating back to the 9th century, was the most important entrance gate to the city of Agrigento, which overlooked the Via Atenea. About Agrigento

Agrigento is a hilltop city on Sicily's south coast, best known for the Valley of the Temples, a ridge of Greek temples standing above the sea.

Agrigento looks out to the Mediterranean from a hill on Sicily's southern coast. Greek colonists founded it around 580 BC as Akragas, and the poet Pindar called it the fairest city of mortals. The Valley of the Temples, a World Heritage site just below the modern town, is a ridge of Doric temples from the fifth century BC; the best preserved is the Temple of Concordia, saved because it was later turned into a church.

Top-ranked sights in Agrigento: Valley of the Temples (Valle dei Templi), House Museum of Soap (Casa Museo del Sapone), Kolymbetra Garden (Giardino della Kolymbethra).
