Points forts

Tohora Bora Bora is the pioneer of whale watching tours in Bora Bora. Simon shares his passion for respect for animals and quality of experience. Whales live in freedom: their sighting is unpredictable. The “launch” option does not guarantee swimming. Where possible, it may require swimming more than 100 m in the open sea. Good physical condition and excellent ease in the water are essential. The excursion lasts 3h30 in the ocean, where conditions can be rough. Launches depend exclusively on whale behaviour and sea conditions. The safety and respect of this protected species remains our priority. People who do not wish to go into the water will fully enjoy the sighting from the boat. It is precisely this authenticity that makes each encounter exceptional.

  • 5An experience of a...

An experience of a lifetime! We started with a brief lesson about the whales before heading out to find them, and along the way, we were lucky enough to encounter dolphins, flying fish, and, finally, a mother whale and her calf. Once we found them, we entered the water, where our instructors carefully guided us on how to approach these magnificent creatures respectfully. Seeing her up close was truly breathtaking. There is something so humbling about witnessing such gentle giants in their natural environment. Whales deserve our utmost respect, protection, and care. I hope we soon uncover what is disrupting their migration patterns and find ways to help restore the natural balance that allows these incredible animals to thrive. An unforgettable experience that left me with an even deeper appreciation for the beauty and fragility of our oceans.

  • 1No whales, no comment

We had just come from a whale-swimming excursion in Moorea, but it was fleeting, and we were left wanting more. I asked if whales were being spotted in Bora Bora; they said yes but that they were fully booked. Later, they very kindly contacted me because two spots had opened up. However, once the booking was made, the communication became curt and abrupt. I asked if they rented or lent out wetsuits given the temperature, but the answer was "no," and they didn't know where to rent them—a stark contrast to Moorea, where we were provided with snacks, towels, and wetsuits (and being at a resort, rental options were non-existent). Once on the excursion, we weren't given snorkeling gear or a pre-swim briefing, giving the impression that even the crew didn't expect to see any whales. And that’s exactly how it turned out: after an hour, the only ones looking for whales were the tourists—and even then, we were restricted to searching less than half the island due to bad weather. In less than three hours, we were heading back—cold, facing terrible wind, and having seen nothing. I understand that sightings can be unpredictable, but taking tourists out in bad weather with almost zero chance of success is unacceptable. In Moorea, we spent over five hours trying, and we eventually succeeded, even if only for a few brief seconds. In short: if you want to see and swim with whales, Moorea is the better choice.

  • 5Amazing Whale Swimming and Watching Experience

We had the most amazing experience with Maui and Jeff, they were so knowledgeable and gracious. They helped every step of the way and made the whole trip memorable. We were able to swim with a humpback, which was a life changing experience. If you can, recommend going with this company. Well worth the price as well as the guides will not disappoint at all.

Superb experience! Simon and his team are attentive, passionate and respectful of whales. We had a wonderful morning with them. We had the time to see whales, swim with them and even see jumps or listen to the clapping of tails! I really recommend this outing!

  • 5The Best Experience in Bora Bora

Absolutely amazing and would highly recommend - we were super lucky and nature played her part with not one but three Humpback Whales! I stayed on the boat and watched while my partner swap to within meters of these ocean legends! Jeff and Maui - thank you, you made the adventure even more magical with your humour, hospitality and singing! If you are thinking of doing this stop thinking and book! AAA+ 5 stars isn’t enough.
