About Shymkent
Shymkent is Kazakhstan's third-largest city, a southern Silk Road trading town near the Uzbek border, with green parks, bazaars and mountains to the east.
Shymkent lies in the south of Kazakhstan on the old Silk Road, close to the border with Uzbekistan and not far from Tashkent. The city is warmer and greener than the steppe far to the north, and it sits at the foot of the western Tian Shan mountains, which rise to the east. It is a mixed city, where Kazakh, Uzbek, Russian and other communities have long lived side by side.
