Itinéraire
This is a customized tour so the exact itinerary and experience will depend on the interests of traveler. If you have a particular interest or would like to see something specific, please request this in advance. Explore Rome the way you want. Visit the highlights but also get away from the crowds and immerse yourself into the rich Italian culture of the Eternal City by connecting with a local expat for personalized recommendations and ‘inside’ information one would only know about from living there. There is so much more to see and experience beyond Rome’s ancient ruins and tourist hotspots.
Discover one of Rome's most historic and picturesque neighborhoods, the Jewish Ghetto. Walk through the ghetto and learn about its fascinating history and visit key Jewish sites, including: the synagogue, the Museo Ebraico, and the Teatro di Marcello (a.k.a "The Jewish Colosseum"), an authentic hidden gem of Ancient Roman architecture. One of the best know dishes of Roman cuisine is Carciofi alla Giudia, or Roman-Jewish fried artichokes, that originated in the Jewish Ghetto of Rome. Artichoke season in Rome begins in November but really kicks up in February when the mammole, or Romanesco (globe) artichokes finally come into season.
Explore this popular district that sits across the River Tiber from central Rome's historic center. With it's narrow cobblestone streets and piazzas, it retains a medieval feel. The Trastevere District is popular for its restaurants, cafes, boutiques and nightclubs attracting a young crowd who congregate around the fountain in the Piazza di Santa Maria.
Enjoying incredible food is as much a part of the Roman experience as visiting the Colosseum. The Prati neighborhood is considered to have some of the best Roman food in the city. Here you'll experience Roman food from a local's perspective and eat from the best cafe, Romans pizza houses, and ice cream shops in the area.
The Via Appia Antica or Appian Way is one of the oldest roads of Rome and served as an important access road into the city. During a trip along the Appia way, you can come across the following sights: * In Rome, the Via Appia starts at the Porta San Sebastiano. * A little further you will see the church 'Domine Quo Vadis'. Tradition has it that Jesus once met Peter here. * A number of catacombes and tombs can also be found along Via Appia. Many other attractions can be found along Via Appia. The easiest way to visit Via Appia is by bike.
Combine some of Rome's best local foods with hidden history and culture in the city's Testaccio quarter. This lively neighborhood is beloved by locals for its family-run delis, bakeries, street food, and more. Uncover Testaccio's past while wondering the streets. Explore the food market and see the ancient Pyramid of Cestia, Artists (Protestant) Cemetery, and other sights within the quarter.
The above are just examples of what you can see and do. Let us help you explore local hidden gems that are only known by locals. Tell us your preferences and we will customize an itinerary for you delivered to your inbox. This is ideal for visitors to Rome who want to explore the city on their own terms and immerse themselves into the local culture by connecting with locals at their favorite spots.

About Rome
Top-ranked sights in Rome: Colosseum, Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel.
