  1. The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheater, is an elliptical architecture in the center of Rome. It is the one of the largest construction ever built in ancient Rome. The Colosseum lies quite close to the Roman Forum and the Palatine hill. The emperor Vespasian began the construction of the amphitheater in 72 AD. It was then completed in 80 AD, under the reign of his son Titus.

About Rome

Top-ranked sights in Rome: Colosseum, Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel.
