8. It is an urban parish in the city of Gaia. Afurada is located near the mouth of the Douro river, where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. It is a traditional fishing village and was created as such. Its patron saint is Saint Peter, hence the name São Pedro, the equivalent in Portuguese.

9. The Douro estuary is located in the parish of São Pedro da Afurada, it has an area of 62 hectares, it is a resting, feeding and sheltering place for many species of migratory birds.
