The city museum is good place to understand the history of Dunhuang, it closes on MONDAY. In the afternoon, visit the World Culture Heritage-- Mogao Grottoes, it is a must -see place in Dunhuang, we need to book the entrance ticket 30 days in advance, the price doesn't include ticket fees, RMB 280 per person,please pay the cash to our tour guide on the travel day. About Dunhuang
Dunhuang, an oasis town in Gansu province on the old Silk Road, is known for the Mogao Caves, desert dunes and a crescent-shaped spring.
Dunhuang lies at the western end of the Hexi Corridor in Gansu province, among Gobi desert and sand dunes, and was a stop on the Silk Road for caravans between China and Central Asia. The Mogao Caves, a World Heritage Site about 25 km south-east of the town, hold hundreds of cave temples carved into a cliff from the fourth century onwards, with painted walls and clay Buddhas.
