About Livorno
Livorno is a working port on the Tuscan coast, with canals, a sea fortress, a chequered seafront terrace and the cacciucco fish stew.
Livorno became a major port when the Medici rulers of Florence built it up in the late sixteenth century, and they invited merchants of every faith and country, so the city mixes Greek, Jewish, Dutch and English heritage.
