Itinéraire

  1. Take a trip back in time with a stroll through the charming streets of the Pullman historic district. The first planned industrial community in the U.S., the Pullman neighborhood is a hidden gem known for its innovative urban design and stunning architecture. The area was designated a National Monument by President Obama in 2015, making it Chicago’s first and only unit of the National Park System. The neighborhood was meticulously planned by George Pullman in the 1880s as housing for employees of his Pullman Palace Car Company. Today, visitors can stop by the Pullman Factory where the railroad cars were constructed, the Hotel Florence, named for his daughter, and the A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum, which documents the first African American labor union in the country.

About Chicago

Chicago is a Great Lakes city on Lake Michigan, famed for skyscraper architecture, deep-dish pizza, blues and jazz and a long lakefront of parks.

Chicago rebuilt itself after the fire of 1871 and became the cradle of the skyscraper. The Chicago River runs through the Loop, where tall towers rise, and boat tours explain the architecture from the water. Millennium Park's mirrored Cloud Gate sculpture, known as the Bean, and the Art Institute of Chicago, with its Impressionist paintings, are close together. Willis Tower has a glass-floored observation deck.

Top-ranked sights in Chicago: Navy Pier, Wrigley Building, The Magnificent Mile.
