Points forts

This isn't a chocolate demonstration — you make the chocolate yourself. Begin beside living cacao trees, then work through the bean-to-bar process yourself: roasting, cracking, winnowing, grinding, refining, tempering and moulding locally grown Caribbean cacao. You'll taste cacao at different stages, learn how fruit becomes chocolate, and leave with a bar you've made yourself. The class takes place inside our working bean-to-bar chocolate house in downtown Puerto Viejo. You can learn more about Cacao Huasi on our website.

About Limón

Limón is Costa Rica's main Caribbean port, an Afro-Caribbean city on a humid coast and the gateway to Tortuguero's canals and the Cahuita reef.

Puerto Limón is Costa Rica's principal Caribbean port, a cargo harbour and provincial capital where the coast curves beneath green hills and rain clouds. Many of its people descend from Jamaican and other West Indian workers who came in the nineteenth century to build the railway to San José, and their English-influenced Creole, music and cooking shape the city. Parque Vargas, a palm-shaded park, runs along the seafront.
