About Big Sky

Big Sky is a mountain resort in the Madison Range of southern Montana, with big ski terrain, the Gallatin River and Yellowstone within a day trip.

Big Sky lies in the Madison Range of south-west Montana, in the Gallatin Canyon, beneath Lone Peak, a pyramid-shaped summit of 3,400 metres. The community was developed as a resort in the early 1970s, with a ski area around Lone Peak that has since grown to cover several mountains, and two base areas, Mountain Village and Meadow Village. The Gallatin National Forest surrounds the town.
