Itinéraire

  1. Live evening show, which introduces you to a variety of Indian dances, such as the Mer, Samai, Kalbelia, and Banjara. The Mer people perform their dance of manliness, where performers' stout physical appearance and fighting spirit is reflected in their dancing. The movement of their feet is very fast as they step like soldiers, applying considerable force in striking their sticks. The Samai dance is associated with traditional brass lamps, a Goan handicraft. The performance requires gymnastic skill to hold the lamp on the dancer's head during a variety of body movements with the accompaniment of folk musical instruments like the ghumat, samel, zanj, shehnai, and surt. The Kalbelia are traditionally known as a nomadic group in Rajasthan whose primary occupation was ensnaring snakes and trading snake venom. During social and ceremonial occasions, folk songs are sung and the women dance as if inspired by the rhythmic beat of the daf instrument.

About Udaipur

Udaipur, the City of Lakes in Rajasthan, is a place of white palaces, island pavilions and hills, mirrored in Lake Pichola.

Maharana Udai Singh II founded Udaipur in the sixteenth century, and the City Palace, a cluster of courts and towers built over centuries, rises on the shore of Lake Pichola. Island palaces, Jag Mandir and the Lake Palace, sit in the water, and boats cross the lake at sunset. Jagdish Temple, a Hindu temple with a carved spire and steep steps, stands close to the palace in the old town.
