  1. Osu Castle, also known as Fort Christiansborg, is a 17th-century castle located on the shores of the vibrant township of Osu, in Ghana’s capital Accra, on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean‘s Gulf of Guinea. The first substantial fort was built by the Danes and has changed hands between Denmark, Norway, Portugal, the Akwamu, Britain, and finally post-Independence Ghana, and was rebuilt numerous times. Christiansborg Castle is also unique among the castles and forts as for most of the castle’s history, it has been the seat of government in Ghana with some interruptions until the seat of government was moved to the Jubilee House. The castle which is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site and some areas around have since 2014 been undergoing archeological investigations.

It is quite an amazing place with lots of very narrow alleyways and women walking about with huge bowls and other packages on their heads. Good place to shop for most things but very crowded most times. Get almost everything you need for your home at reasonable rate. Your guide to show you the more interesting parts of the market and find some cool vantage spots for excellent photo opportunities. Plan to spend the day, there is plenty to see.

About Accra

Accra, Ghana's capital on the Gulf of Guinea, mixes colonial forts, independence monuments, busy markets, beach bars and a famed music scene.

Accra lines the Atlantic coast, and its older districts keep the character of a trading port. In Jamestown, an old fishing quarter, a lighthouse stands beside Dutch and British forts, and boxing gyms spill onto the lanes. Black Star Square, with its Independence Arch, and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park honour Ghana's first president and independence in 1957, while the W. E. B. Du Bois Centre remembers the writer who spent his final years here.

Top-ranked sights in Accra: Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Memorial Park, W. E. B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture, Makola Market.
