It is located in the 18 km long Guangou valley where the Jundu Mountain and Yan Mountain meet, which makes it the only route from Mongolia to Beijing in the old days. From the parking lot, it takes only 2 minutes to get on the actual Wall. It is more suitable for people who could not or don’t want to spend too much energy or time on reaching the actual Great Wall. Nowadays, It is much less crowded than the famous Badaling and Mutianyu Great Wall.

Badaling was first built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to occupy a commanding and strategic position for protecting the Juyongguan Great Wall, Ming Tombs and the city of Beijing. Nowadays, with increasing popularity with domestic and foreign tourists, it is almost the same crowded as Badaling. It takes almost 2-3 hours to take the chairlift up and another 1-2 hours to get on the toboggan. Plus, there is another long line for the shuttle bus up and down. Avoid going there on holidays, busy season and Mondays, or start very early.

About Beijing

Top-ranked sights in Beijing: Mutianyu Great Wall, Forbidden City (Palace Museum), Tiananmen Square (Tiananmen Guangchang).
