Sukhbaatar Square is the central square of Ulaanbaatar and the heart of the city. Right in front of the Government Palace, you will see the grand, giant statue of Chinggis Khaan, surrounded by two of the other most important rulers in Mongolian history: Oghedei and Khubilai Khaan. About Ulaanbaatar
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia's capital on the Tuul River, is a high, cold city of Buddhist monasteries, Soviet squares and nomadic traditions.
Ulaanbaatar lies at around 1,350 metres in a valley below Bogd Khan mountain, and is among the coldest capitals in the world. It grew from a movable monastery town, and Gandan Monastery, still a working Buddhist centre, holds a tall gilded statue of Avalokiteshvara.
