Itinerary

  1. Gutmanala is the largest grotto in the Baltic States and is known as a cult place. Up until the 19th century, people would come here to make their offerings to the deities. Cave is also known for inscriptions on its walls, some of them dating back to 1668 and 1677. It is 10 meters high, 12 meters wide and 18.8 meters deep.

  2. Turaida Castle is a symbol of Sigulda. The building of the castle began in 1214, under the direction of Albert, Bishop of Riga. Periodically the archbishop`s estate and property, including Turaida, were governed by Livonian Order. Throughout history, many battles took place there and the castle had several owners until the 17th century when it lost its military significance and became a private property. Today it is the most visited museum in Latvia. Castle is located on the edge of Gauja valley offering a stunning view from the top floor of the Main Tower.

  3. Krimulda manor is one of the most vivid examples of Classicism style villa architecture in Latvia. Most accounts of the life in the manor have been preserved from the time of the von Lieven family – the last owners of the manor in the 19th century. However, the cultural layers of the Krimulda castle mounds have revealed evidence that people have lived here for thousands of years. The history of the Krimulda castle itself dates back to the 13th century. The first Krimulda castle was located closer to river Gauja and its ruins can still be seen. We also recommend wine tasting at manor winery - Cremon. Winery offers about 15 kinds of wines and 10 liqueurs, as well as calvados and gin, made in Krimulda manor, though the range of beverages is expanded every year. Over the years, the most popular “Cremon” products are the gently bitter dandelion wine, cranberry wine and the dreamy lilac wine.

  4. Sigulda is known worldwide for its bobsleigh and luge track, which was opened in 1986 and offers rides not only to professional athletes, but also for visitors. It is 1200 metres long and consists of 16 turns. Speeds of up to 125 km/h can be reached. The bobsleigh and luge track hosts bobsleigh, luge and skeleton competitions. Rides are open both during winter using the Vucko soft bob and summer when the bob will be on wheels. During the ride you can enjoy the speed, and every turn is a new and unforgettable adventure.

    20 min

  5. Sigulda cable car offers a trip over Gauja old valley, overlooking a charming landscape of several kilometres, including Sigulda and Turaida castle, Krimulda manor house, as well as the Bobsleigh and luge track "Sigulda". The cable car connects both river banks in width of 1025 meters. During summer more extreme feelings can be caught bungee jumping and riding zipline Zērglis.

About Riga

Riga, Latvia's capital on the Baltic, is a Hanseatic city of medieval spires and streets of Art Nouveau façades.

Riga was founded in 1201 and grew rich as a Hanseatic trading port on the Daugava River. Its old town, listed by UNESCO, has cobbled lanes around the Dome Cathedral, with a famous organ, and the spire of St Peter's Church, which has a viewing platform. The House of the Blackheads, a gabled merchants' guild hall, and the Three Brothers, among the oldest houses in the city, stand in the heart of the old town.

Top-ranked sights in Riga: Riga Cathedral (Rigas Doms), Riga Town Hall Square (Ratslaukums), St Peter's Church.
