  3. The Old Town Bridge Tower was built together with the Charles Bridge in the 14th Century and is considered one of the most beautiful Gothic structures in the world. It was originally created as a triumphal arch on the Royal Route and its function was primarily aesthetic. The whole tower is characterised by rich figural and ornamental sculptural decoration. From the 47-metre-high lookout point, you can see not only the historical centre of Prague, but also the Lesser Town Bridge Tower on the opposite end of the bridge. TIP: While you’re in the area, don’t miss the nearby Church of the Holy Saviour.

    1 hAdmission included

  4. The Lesser Town Bridge Towers are characterised by rare Gothic architecture and dates from the 15th Century. The tower originally served a defensive function, but today it is open to the public, including the gallery at a height of 26 metres. It offers beautiful views of the Vltava River and the historic centre of Prague. The higher bridge tower was built after 1464 at the expense of George of Poděbrady on the site of an older Romanesque tower. Its form follows up on the concept of Parléř’s Old Town Bridge Tower. The building material consists of large sandstone blocks. Niches were built into the tower, for which monumental statues were probably planned but were never carried out. The tower underwent extensive repairs from 1874 to 1879 under the direction of architect Joseph Mocker. TIP: While you’re in the area, don’t miss nearly Kampa Island and the Čertovka Canal.

    1 hAdmission included

  5. The St Nicholas Bell Tower is immediately adjacent to the church of the same name and was built in Baroque style in the 18th Century. The bell served as a fire alarm. The observation deck is located at a height of 65 metres and is thus one of the highest in Prague. In 1891, the last town crier, whose function was to ring the bell in case of fire and to show the direction of the fire from the window with a red ribbon (or a lantern at night), moved out. Afterwards, it was occupied by painter Jan Vochoč. From the beginning of the 1950s until the fall of the communist regime, the State Security Agency maintained a observation post in the tower from which they chiefly monitored movements at the embassies of Western countries. TIP: While you’re in the area, don’t miss the nearby Kampa Island and the Lennon Wall.

    1 hAdmission included

  6. The Petřín Tower was built at the end of the 19th Century and was inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This technically flawless tower is 63.5 metres high and the public observation deck, which offers a unique view of the main landmarks of Prague, is at a height of 55 metres. The neo-Renaissance cellar of the building houses an exhibition dedicated to the urban transformations of the surrounding area. Don’t lose time on your journey towards experiences and enjoy maximum comfort! With the Prague Visitor Pass you receive an elevator ticket for free. Please note that the maximum capacity of the elevator is 3 people. For larger groups, there may be a long waiting time and we recommend using the stairs. Children under the age of 15 may only use the elevator when accompanied by an adult.

    1 hAdmission included

  7. The Mirror Maze on Petřín Hill is a Neo-Gothic building constructed at the end of the 19th Century as an entertainment pavilion. Today it houses a labyrinth and a hall of mirrors. This popular destination for families with children can be found near the Petřín Lookout Tower. In addition to the maze in the pavilion, there is also a large painting with a three-dimensional foreground that depicts the battle between Prague residents and Swedish soldiers on Charles Bridge in 1648, known as the defence of the Old Town Bridge Tower. The painting measures 80 square metres and it is interesting to see what the left bank of the Vltava River looked like in the mid-17th Century. TIP: While you’re in the area, don’t miss the nearby Memorial to the Victims of Communism created by famous Czech sculptor Olbram Zoubek.

    1 hAdmission included

  8. Powder Gate Tower dates back to the 15th Century and represents one of the most valuable Gothic buildings in Prague. This monumental tower served as a gunpowder depot, after which it takes its name, and was also the entrance gate to the Royal Route leading to Prague Castle. Today it is open to the public and the gallery at a height of 44 metres offers is a unique view of the medieval centre of Prague. The first floor on the Celetná Street side is decorated with statues of George of Poděbrady and Vladislav II, with figures of Přemysl Otakar II and Charles IV on the other side. The second floor level features statues of Czech patrons and saints surrounding Christ on the east side, and the Virgin Mary with child on the west side. The facade facing Celetná Street bears statues of Adam and Eve, and statues of St. Peter and Paul on the opposite facade. TIP: While you’re in the area, don’t miss the nearby Na Příkopě Street, one of Prague's main shopping avenues.

    1 hAdmission included

  9. The New Mill Water Tower dates back to the 17th Century and is a very valuable technical monument built in the Baroque style. It used to serve as a water reservoir; today it is home to an exhibition about Prague’s firefighters. The observation deck offers a beautiful view of the Vltava River and the wider centre of Prague. The exhibition’s concept makes maximum use of the possibilities of multimedia. In addition to discussing the specific topics of fire and how to fight it using projected paintings, graphics, photographs and period textbooks for firefighters and fire regulations, visitors also have the opportunity to experience what it was like to life through a large fire in medieval and early modern Prague. Sensory illusions are used to create an impression of the threat t Prague residents in fires that engulfed entire neighbourhoods. TIP: While you’re in the area, don’t miss the nearby nearby Štvanice Hydroelectric Plant.

About Prague

Prague's skyline of spires rises over the Vltava, with a hilltop castle, statue-lined bridge and a medieval old town that survived largely intact.

Prague Castle, one of the largest castle complexes anywhere, crowns the hill of Hradčany, with St Vitus Cathedral at its centre and the tiny houses of Golden Lane tucked behind. Below, the Lesser Town's Baroque palaces and terraced gardens lead down to the Charles Bridge, lined with statues of saints and busy from dawn.

Top-ranked sights in Prague: Charles Bridge (Karluv Most), Prague Castle (Pražský Hrad), Prague Old Town Square (Staromestské Námestí).
