  • 5Great tour with Kumiko!

We had a fantastic half-day tour with Kumiko! She picked us up at our hotel in Kanazawa, took us to explore the Gokayama Region, and dropped us off in Takayama. Our tour took us to Ainokura where we not only learned about the town but also got to take part in a paper making experience - a highlight of the day! We visited Suganuma with its rich history and beautiful views. Our last stop was the IWASE house where we were welcomed by the owners, they performed a traditional folksong for us and we were able to look around the inside of a pristinely kept thatched roof house. Kumiko took pictures of us along the way which were fun to have at the end of the tour. She gave us time to explore and walk around our stops while also offering history and insight along the way. At the end we were not able to check into our hotel yet so she found us a great spot for lunch and made sure we were set up there before leaving. Kumiko was so energetic, kind and informative and her English was great! We really enjoyed this tour.

  • 5Takayama Walking mid day tour

Kumiko was the best tour guide we have ever had!! She has so much energy and enthusiasm, which is truly admirable. The tour went incredibly well. She gave us so much information about Takayama and the temples, and she seemed to know everything! Her shop recommendations were great too. We tried some delicious rice sticks that she recommended, and they were really good. She also brought food to feed the carp, which was such a fun experience. Even though it was August and the middle of the day (and really hot!), we had the best walking tour. Kumiko made the experience so enjoyable. You will not regret booking this tour, she is THE BEST!!!

About Takayama

Takayama, in the mountains of Gifu Prefecture, is a well-kept Edo-period town of dark wooden merchant houses, sake breweries and a morning market.

Takayama lies in the Hida region of the Japanese Alps, in a high basin ringed by mountains. Its old town, Sanmachi Suji, keeps three streets of dark timber merchant houses from the Edo period, with latticed fronts and sake breweries marked by cedar-ball signs hanging from the eaves. Takayama Jinya, the former magistrate's office, is one of the last of its kind in Japan.

Top-ranked sights in Takayama: Takayama Morning Markets (Asaichi), Sannomachi Street (Sanmachi Suji), Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine & Festival Floats Exhibition Hall.
