Itinerario

  1. We'll meet at the meeting point to begin this full-day adventure in the Tambopata National Reserve. We'll sail for 45 minutes along the Madre de Dios River to the start of a 3-km hike through the tropical rainforest that will take us to the impressive Sandoval Lake. Once at the lake, home to piranhas and various wildlife, we'll take a rowboat ride to observe the local fauna up close. We'll be able to see birds such as cormorants, jacanas, and puma herons, as well as howler monkeys, woodpeckers, sloths, and, with a bit of luck, giant otters or caimans. After exploring, we'll enjoy a well-deserved rest and a delicious traditional lunch: juane, prepared with rice, chicken, eggs, and olives, wrapped in a bijao leaf. Finally, we'll return by boat to Puerto Maldonado, where the experience concludes.

About Puerto Maldonado

Puerto Maldonado, in the Peruvian Amazon, is a river town at the meeting of two rivers and the main gateway to the Tambopata rainforest.

Puerto Maldonado stands where the Tambopata River joins the Madre de Dios in the south-eastern Peruvian Amazon, not far from the borders with Bolivia and Brazil. It is the capital of the Madre de Dios region, a hot, humid lowland town of motorbikes and riverside docks, linked to the Andes and to Brazil by the Interoceanic Highway.
