The Carmo Convent was built in 1389 by the Portuguese King João I as part of his legacy to create a complex religious site that would eventually become a powerful symbol for Portugal. Carmo Convento is actually a ruin of a 14th-century convent that was destroyed by an infamous earthquake and fire. On Nov. 1, 1755, one of the deadliest earthquakes of all time shook Lisbon. Buildings throughout the city collapsed, including this one.
This romantic terrace by the church of Santa Luzia introduces visitors to Alfama with a sweeping view over its houses, churches, and the Tagus River. Alfama is Lisbon's oldest extant neighbourhood, built in the 8th century during the Muslim conquest of Portugal and neighbouring Spain. Under the Umayyad Caliphate, Lisbon became one of the largest cities in Europe. “Alfama”–from the Arabic al-Hamma, “public baths”–constituted the whole of the city in this period. We will stop at world famous Alfama MIradour
A visit to the Cathedral of Saint Mary Major, or Lisbon Cathedral, serves as an extraordinary opportunity to immerse oneself in the rich tapestry of history and architecture that defines Portugal's religious heritage. As the oldest church in Lisbon and the seat of the Patriarchate, the Sé not only exemplifies remarkable Gothic and Romanesque elements but also stands as a testament to resilience, having withstood the devastating 1755 earthquake and tsunami. Exploring this enduring landmark offers invaluable insight into the cultural and historical significance of the region, inviting visitors to appreciate the profound narratives embedded within its ancient walls. For anyone seeking to connect with the past, the Lisbon Cathedral is an essential destination that captures the essence of Portugal's architectural legacy.

About Lisboa
Miradores como Santa Luzia y Senhora do Monte enmarcan tejados rojos y aguas brillantes.
Top-ranked sights in Lisboa: Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio), Pena National Palace (Palacio Nacional da Pena), Alfama.
