Floating through the heart of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve in Haines Alaska is a must see attraction and you won't want to miss the jaw dropping scenery, delightful guides and genuine Alaskan wildlife. Watch eagles catching salmon and caring for young eagles in the numerous nests that line the riverbanks. Look for bears, moose, and a host of other wildlife that call the preserve home. Relax or take pictures as your private guide navigates the narrow channels of the Preserve's glacial fed rivers. Enjoy a hearty snack and hot drinks at the end of the tour. 5Very nice rafting experience
We chose to book directly with Haines Rafting Co. instead of booking with the cruise company and are glad we did. We were a group of four people with a guide and driver just for us. The cruise excursion was a bus full of people crammed 6 to 8 to a raft. Rich was our driver and was very knowledgeable about the area. Hannah was our guide and did a great job handling the raft and pointing out the eagles and other wildlife that we encountered. We stopped at a sandbar and saw Moose and Bear tracks though we didn’t see the animals themselves. We even stopped by a small stream on the drive back to see some Salmon spawning. The cost was a little expensive but it was about the same as the cruise company was charging for a similar excursion. The trip length was four hours from pick up to drop off, with about two and a half hours on the river.
5Float trip success
Our guides Sam and Rich were very knowledgeable about the area. We had full confidence in their experience with our float trip. The river was lovely. We saw some eagles, arctic terns and goshawks. We did luck out with the 70 degree sunny day too. Just to let you know it can happen!
5Great float trip.

Fantastic trip from start to finish. We were picked up from our accommodation and transported about half an hour to the start. We were immediately told interesting information about the local area and wildlife and this continued throughout the trip. It was such a peaceful rafting trip through beautiful countryside. Unfortunately we didn’t see much eagle activity but realise that cannot be guaranteed. Would love to go again.
5Haines highlight
We had the best time on this float trip. Andy our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the local area and wildlife and also impressed us with his river skills. We saw a bear and a moose just on the drive there and saw lots of bald eagles. The snack at the end provided by our drive Leigh was also very welcome. We also really appreciated that this was a small group trip so we had the river to ourselves. Definitely the highlight of our trip to Haines!

About Haines
Haines is a small town in Alaska's Panhandle on the Lynn Canal fjord, ringed by glaciated mountains and known for bald eagles, bears and Tlingit culture.
Haines sits on the western shore of Lynn Canal, a long fjord in south-east Alaska, with the Chilkat Mountains rising straight behind the harbour. The Chilkat Tlingit have lived in the valley for centuries and are known for their woven ceremonial blankets and carved poles. Fort William H. Seward, an army post built in 1902 and now a group of white wooden buildings around a parade ground, stands above the water.
