5This is the way to see Kanazawa
Sachiko was an amazing guide. She provided a culture rich experience with insights into daily living.
5Kanzana Geiko and Samurai half day toys!
Overall, our guide Yakshima, apologies as I do not know how to spell her name correctly was very kind, knowledgeable, to the point. Not only did she extend her kindness but very respectful, funny, asked heart felt questions and showed genuine intrigue in getting to know us in a short time. Highly recommend!
5Kenzo is a great guide.
Today we had Kenzo as a guide for a tour of Kanazawa. He was very knowledgeable and excellent guide. He went above and beyond to ensure we have seen everything interesting in Kanazawa. We would highly recommend Kenzo as a guide.
5A wonderful half day tour
We had a great Time and our Guide Nozomi was a lovely person and spoke an excellent English. She picked us up in our Hotel and explained the day to us. We were going to see some local Crafts and she gave us a choice to either get a glimpse of the Samurai or the Geisha culture. We chose the Samurai District and it was beautiful and very interesting. Experiencing a historical House with all its Rules and Meanings is really, really interesting and so different from europe as you could imagine. She took us around to the sites by Taxi, and after that we were getting confident in using taxis ourselves. At the end she took us to a local Workshop for traditional umbrellas. We were introduced to very wonderful people at the workshop, that were so friendly and open to us, that we almost felt sad to leave after that short time. It was really fascinating how they are made, and how much work goes into them. Unfortunately it is one of the crafts, that are dying due to the younger generation not willing to keep it alive. After digging a little deeper we were shocked to hear the result. Those beautiful Pieces of Art are being sold for roughly 200-300 Euros. Since they take a lot of time to be made, you are really not getting rich by that handcraft.
5Great half day walking tour with Nicola.
NicoLa Cinelli was an informative and engaging tour guide. He was fun to be with and let us proceed at our own pace and interests. I wish we had done a full day tour with him instead of just four hours. He followed up the tour by sending us to a really wonderful lunch spot with great curry, and some ideas for what to do with the rest of the day and tomorrow. I recommend him highly.
5Excellent well rounded tour.
Excellent tour from Yoshiko-san today. My wife and I had a great time at Kenrokumachi Park in the morning, as well as the traditional fabric dye workshop and the geisha house to finish. Yoshiko-san was very well prepared and knowledgeable about the areas, took a ton of pictures for us, and answered all of our questions. She dropped us off at a great soba-ya in the Higashi Chaya District at the end of the tour. Highly recommend this tour company and Yoshiko-san in particular.
Kanazawa is a castle city on Japan's Sea of Japan coast, with the celebrated Kenrokuen garden, geisha and samurai districts, gold leaf and fresh seafood.
Kanazawa was the seat of the Maeda clan, who ruled the rich Kaga domain through the Edo period, and it escaped the bombing of the Second World War, so its old streets survive. Kenrokuen, one of Japan's three great landscape gardens, spreads over a hill beside the castle, with ponds, stone lanterns and pines that are held up by ropes against the winter snow. The turrets and gates of Kanazawa Castle have been rebuilt.
