4Convenient way to see historic sites
Definitely a convenient way to see some must-see sites from Catania. However, there is no guided tour portion; you will explore Etna (briefly) and Taormina on your own.
5Mt. Etna and Taormina Terrific
The road trip to Mt. Etna and Taormina was great. Our guide Valentina was informative and engaging. We felt comfortable and not rushed through the stops.
1No show tour company
Our tour operator did not show up to pick us up for our Mt Etna tour. The tour operator did not notify us that they were cancelling the tour. When we first called the tour operator 30 minutes after they were supposed to pick us up (we were waiting the whole time, while other Mt Etna tours picked their people up) the tour operator at first denied that we had a reserved tour and then said that the weather was bad and that they would pick us up tomorrow instead. Your (Viator's) response was 1) would you like me to request a refund? and 2) I can rebook you with another tour company for tomorrow at more than double the tour cost that you booked at and 3) I'll try to contact your tour operator to see if we can get you reliably booked on a Mt Etna/Taormina tour for tomorrow (to which the tour operator has apparently not replied). This is the first problem that I have had with a Viator tour and so far I'm not impressed. Every tour booking company has issues and problems, the question is what is Viator doing to help its clients when things go wrong?
5Fabrizio, our driver and...
Fabrizio, our driver and guide, was very nice and provided a lot of information. We would never have done these sights on our own. Highly recommend!
5Time to take it all in
This private tour offers an exceptional experience, with every aspect explained and the pace relaxed and enjoyable.
5What a day with an expert!
We were fortunate enough to have our guide Sebastian to ourselves for the day. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about Mt Etna and the surrounding areas. Being a geological student, he gave us a great understanding and was very insightful! Would highly recommended this tour and ask for him. There were some interesting moments as we were there the day of a significant eruption but we always felt safe.
Catania, on Sicily's east coast, is a black lava-stone city beneath Mount Etna, with a noisy fish market, Baroque squares and a long seafront.
Catania lies at the foot of Mount Etna, the active volcano whose lava reached the city in 1669, and an earthquake in 1693 flattened it. Rebuilt in the eighteenth century in the Baroque style, it uses black lava stone for walls and paving, set against white limestone. The Piazza del Duomo has an elephant of lava stone carrying an obelisk, the cathedral of Sant'Agata, and a fountain.
Top-ranked sights in Catania: Piazza Duomo, Via Crociferi (Via dei Crociferi) , Gambino Winery (Vini Gambino).
Los precios tachados vienen del operador, nunca de nosotros.
