For the history buffs, the well-preserved Cape Dutch buildings and historical sites offer a journey back in time. The Afrikaans Language Monument, perched on the slopes of Paarl Mountain, commemorates the birth of Afrikaans, the world’s youngest language. Nearby, Drakenstein Prison, a significant landmark, was Nelson Mandela’s final place of captivity and the starting point of his long walk to freedom.
