Selous Game Reserve is the largest wildlife area in Africa. A UNISECO World Heritage site, this pristine uninhabited area is larger than Switzerland. Selous boasts Tanzania’s largest population of elephant as large numbers of lion, leopard, African hunting dog, buffalo and hippo. The Rufiji River is teeming with hippo and crocodile, and the birdlife is fantastic. Lion sightings are very common as the opportunistic creatures tend to laze around the lakes waiting for animals coming to drink. About Dar es Salaam
Dar es Salaam is Tanzania's largest city and main port, a hot Swahili-coast city of markets, museums, beaches and ferries to Zanzibar.
Dar es Salaam, whose name comes from the Arabic for 'haven of peace', grew around a harbour on the Indian Ocean in the nineteenth century and is the commercial centre of Tanzania. Its waterfront has the Kivukoni fish market, where boats unload at dawn, and the colonial-era buildings of the centre include St Joseph's Cathedral, a Gothic church with a tall spire, and the Azania Front Lutheran Church.
