1. Karnak Temple, called by some “the Temple of Temples.” It is the largest place of worship ever built. Its ancient name Ipet-Isut means “the most sacred of places.” The temple, or, more correctly, the complex of temples, was built over more than two thousand years by generation after generation of pharaohs. Within the complex, the great “Hypostyle Hall” is an incredible forest of giant pillars covering an area larger than the whole of Notre Dame Cathedral.

About Luxor

Luxor ligt op de plek van het antieke Thebe, met reusachtige tempels op de oostoever en de koningsgraven van de Vallei der Koningen aan de overkant.

Op de oostoever strekt het tempelcomplex van Karnak zich uit over hectares aan pylonen, obelisken en het zuilenwoud van de Grote Hypostyle Zaal. Een laan van sfinxen verbindt het met de Luxortempel in het centrum van de stad, die vooral sfeervol is wanneer hij 's avonds wordt verlicht. Het Luxormuseum en het Mummificatiemuseum liggen langs de boulevard aan de rivier.
