About Xian

Xi'an, hoofdstad van vele Chinese dynastieën en beginpunt van de Zijderoute, heeft het Terracottaleger en onaangetaste stadsmuren uit de Mingtijd.

Het Terracottaleger, in 1974 gevonden door boeren die een put groeven, staat in uitgestrekte kuilen buiten de stad: duizenden levensgrote kleibeelden van krijgers, paarden en wagens die zijn begraven om de graftombe van Qin Shi Huang, de eerste keizer van China, te bewaken. Elk beeld heeft een eigen gezicht en de schaal is verbijsterend.
