Recently established, it extends from the Tyrrhenian coast, with the two marine protected areas of “Santa Maria di Castellabate” and “Costa degli Infreschi e della Masseta”, to the foot of the Campania and Lucanian Apennines, and includes the peaks of the Alburni, Gelbison mountains, the coastal buttresses of Mount Bulgheria and Mount Stella, the highest peak of Mount Cervati in Campania.

About Salerno

Salerno is a port city at the eastern end of the Amalfi Coast, with a Norman cathedral, a palm-lined seafront and a castle on the hill above.

Salerno curves around a gulf with a long palm-lined waterfront, the Lungomare, and a medieval centre of narrow lanes behind it. The cathedral, begun in the eleventh century under the Norman duke Robert Guiscard, has an arcaded atrium and a tall bell tower, and the city was home to the Schola Medica Salernitana, one of the earliest medical schools in Europe.
