3. After approximately 2 hours of travel, we arrive at Piedras Rojas, one of the most iconic landscapes of the desert. The site impresses by the red colouring of the rocks, formed by curious geological phenomena over thousands of years, perfect setting for unforgettable photos. To get to the Salar de Aguas Calientes, also known as Salar de Aguas Calientes, we will have to climb in our vehicle up to 3,800 meters of altitude and walk 1 hour and 15 minutes, to see the red stones, plus some lagoons and salines.

About San Pedro de Atacama

San Pedro de Atacama is an adobe oasis town in northern Chile, ringed by salt flats, volcanoes, geysers and some of the driest desert on earth.

San Pedro de Atacama is a village of low whitewashed adobe houses and dusty streets in an oasis of the Atacama Desert, at about 2,400 metres. Its adobe church goes back to the 17th century and has a roof of cactus wood, and the small Museo Arqueológico Gustavo Le Paige displays mummies and pottery from the desert's early peoples. The cone of Licancabur volcano stands over the town to the east.
