5A truly authentic sushi-making experience in Nara 🍣
I joined a sushi-making class in Nara that went far beyond the usual tourist experience. Instead of simply shaping sushi, I was invited to step into the chef’s working space — to hold the knife myself and learn how to slice the fish under the guidance of a professional sushi master. Even the wasabi wasn’t the typical green powder. I got to grate it fresh from real wasabi root, releasing a fragrance and spiciness that felt completely different from what I had known before. Every step was handled with care, and the chef’s explanations were clear and patient. It truly felt like learning from a real artisan rather than just taking part in a short class. Compared with other sushi experiences I’ve joined before, this one was much deeper and more genuine. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn the true spirit of Japanese sushi craftsmanship — not just make sushi, but understand it.

5Fun sushi-making in Nara!
Authentic sushi-making class with friendly and attentive instructors. You will put on a Japanese traditional festival coat called “happi coat” as you make your sushi. The ingredients are super fresh, delicious and not fishy at all. It’s beginner-friendly and you will make wonderful memories there.
5Tossy was terrific!
My husband and I had a wonderful private sushi making class today, taught by Tossy. He was fun and informative and really made the class a pleasure. We got to eat our sushi creations and everything was delicious! Thank you, Tossy, for this unique and special experience!

About Nara
Nara, in the Kansai region, was Japan's capital in the eighth century and is now a city of great Buddhist temples and free-roaming deer.
Nara was the capital, Heijo-kyo, from 710 to 784, and its monuments from that age make up a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Todai-ji temple houses a bronze Great Buddha in one of the largest wooden buildings in the world. Around it spreads Nara Park, where more than a thousand sika deer roam freely and bow for crackers sold at stalls.
