About Mobile
Mobile is Alabama's old Gulf port, founded by the French in 1702, with live oaks, Mardi Gras traditions, a battleship museum and a seafood table.
Mobile rests on the western shore of Mobile Bay where the Mobile River reaches the Gulf, and it began in 1702 as the first capital of French Louisiana. Oaks hung with Spanish moss shade the streets, and the historic districts have iron-lace balconies, Greek Revival houses and the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Alabama's only seaport still works along the waterfront.
Top-ranked sights in Mobile: USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, Dauphin Street, GulfQuest: National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico.
