  • 5A thoroughly informative and fun class!

Thank you Sajee and Susie for hosting our family of 8 adults. We all LOVED it and was a highlight of our trip. Next time we are all together we are all cooking a curry and doing a curry night! We will send our results!! It was extra special for the birthday boy and we all enjoyed the special cake. Thank you again. It was much appreciated The recipes and extra information is an awesome follow up.

  • 5Sake’s Cooking Place - the Perfect Sri Lankan experience

The whole experience was so well done. From our greeting and throughout the whole evening, it was professional, organised and stress free. We were in a group of 5 people and allowed everyone to participate and not be crowded. Every step was explained, the ingredients were well laid out and presentation was perfect. The final meals were delicious and food was plentiful. Would highly recommend.

  • 5Great hands-on introduction to Sri Lankan cooking

We really enjoyed our cooking class with Sajee and Suzy. It was a fun and very hands-on way to learn more about Sri Lankan cuisine, in a lovely and relaxed setting. Sajee’s explanations were very clear and easy to follow. He took the time to explain the different spices and ingredients, how they are used, and the techniques behind each dish. Both Sajee and Suzy were incredibly kind and patient, guiding us through each step and making the whole experience relaxed and enjoyable. They were also very accommodating and flexible, which we really appreciated given our travel schedule that day. We prepared a wonderful variety of dishes, including curries, dhal and coconut sambol, and then sat down to enjoy everything we had made together. We also really appreciated receiving the recipes and cooking tips afterwards. The class gave us a much better understanding of Sri Lankan cooking and its ingredients — so much so that we stopped at a local supermarket afterwards to buy some of the spices we had used so that we could try recreating the dishes at home. A wonderful and memorable experience in Sigiriya. Highly recommended!

  • 5A must do Cooking Experience

We had a great afternoon/evening doing Sajee's Cooking Class. Sajee was very personable and explained the different spices and cooking methods used in Sri Lanka. We really enjoyed getting involved with the preparation rather than just watching. He was very descriptive which made it very interesting. Then we got to sit down and eat the delicious food, which was a highlight. Such a fantastic evening to learn more about Sri Lankan food and cooking. So inspired we all bought traditional cooking pots the next day to take home! Highly recommend.

About Sigiriya

Sigiriya is a village in Sri Lanka's dry central plains, dominated by a huge rock fortress with palace ruins, frescoes and gardens.

Sigiriya Rock rises almost two hundred metres out of the forest plain. In the fifth century King Kashyapa built a palace on top and a city around it, and it is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The climb passes the Mirror Wall, a polished surface scratched with ancient verses, frescoes of women in a sheltered pocket of the cliff, and a gateway shaped like the paws of a lion. Water gardens and boulder gardens lie at the foot.

Top-ranked sights in Sigiriya: Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Dambulla Cave Temple (Golden Temple of Dambulla).
