2. We will drive along the road that runs through Kushiro Wetland, the largest wetland in Japan, while searching for wildlife. We'll be looking for one of the largest eagles in the world; Steller's sea eagles and white-tailed eagles, and endemic mammals such as Ezo sika deer.

3. Every winter, around 700 cranes migrate to Tsurui Village. A knowledgeable nature guide will introduce you to these beautiful cranes dancing on the snow, along with insightful commentary.

About Kushiro

Kushiro is a fishing port on Hokkaido's Pacific coast, gateway to Japan's largest wetland and home of the red-crowned crane.

Kushiro sits at the mouth of the Kushiro River on the south-east coast of Hokkaido, a working port where summer sea fog rolls in and keeps the air cool. North of the city, Kushiro Shitsugen National Park protects the largest wetland in Japan, a flat expanse of reeds, marsh and small lakes crossed by boardwalks, where the red-crowned crane, known in Japanese as tancho, can be seen.
