• 5Great tour

  We visited places to see the views anfd fauna. Guide and driver were friendly and diligent. Vehicle was ideal.

• 3Nice tour

  Even though our ship arrived late, this company did everything they could to give us a nice tour. It's a long walk from the ship to the end of the pier, but we were able to quickly locate our vehicle and get started. Then we hit a huge traffic jam! Not a great start, but our guide Carlos was great. They took us to everywhere described in the tour, but it was starting to get dark-- not their fault. We had a good experience, they provide us with a lot of info and we had a good time. Definitely would recommend this!

• 1I cancelled the tour and...

  I cancelled the tour and it was acknowledged by Alvaro from odyssey Tours. Ship did not dock till 3:30ish because of hurricane delay. He said he will refund $98.

• 4Very informative and enjoyable tour. Value for money.

  The tour guide, Benny was very good in providing guide and information about Puntarenas and Costa Rica. We are only 4 ( 2 couples) in our tour group, so the tour was particularly catered to us. We visited the old town, the mountains, crocodile , monkeys and the birds( macaw) and also did some shopping . All in all it was a 5 hour tour.

• 1The Tour Operator Canceled Last Minute

  I only gave it 1 star because they advised us the morning we were due to go that others had dropped out, and they couldn't take us alone without an upgrade to a private tour. We walked to the end of the pier and found a great tour guide who took us to all the sites and had a great time. Still waiting for a promised refund.

• 5Puntarenas with Hazel = a Great Excursion

  We booked this as a private shore excursion, instead of the ones offered by NCL, in large part because it offered a smaller group size. This allowed us into some locations that a large tour bus could not go. (ex monkey sanctuary, mountain restaurant, roadside pull-outs, etc.) Our guide, Hazel, was excellent. She was well-educated and well-informed and gave us an in-depth and personal experience. She also would adjust some portions of our tour to fit the needs and wishes of our smaller group. Hazel brought along a spotting scope and used it to help us see distant wildlife that our cameras could not reach. Only "down side" was there was not a lot of time for local shopping. We would do this tour again if we re-visit Costa Rica.

About Puntarenas

Puntarenas is a Pacific port on a narrow sandspit in the Gulf of Nicoya, with a seaside promenade, a cruise dock and ferries to the Nicoya Peninsula.

Puntarenas stretches along a sandspit about five kilometres long that pokes into the Gulf of Nicoya, with the sea on one side and an estuary on the other. In the 19th century it was Costa Rica's main Pacific port, when coffee from the Central Valley was carted down to be shipped abroad. Today a long seafront promenade, the Paseo de los Turistas, runs along the beach, and cruise ships call at the dock.
