  2. At Alchi Monastery, expect one of the oldest and most artistically significant monasteries in Ladakh. Unlike other hilltop gompas, Alchi lies on flat ground near the Indus River. Inside, you'll find stunning 11th-century Indo-Tibetan murals, intricate wood carvings, and massive statues of Buddhist deities. It’s a peaceful, spiritual, and artistic gem.

  3. At Alchi Monastery, expect a serene atmosphere and a rare glimpse into early Buddhist art and architecture in Ladakh. Built in the 11th century, it houses intricate wall paintings, ancient scriptures, and beautifully preserved sculptures influenced by Kashmiri and Tibetan styles. About Leh

Leh, the main town of Ladakh high in the Himalaya, is a Buddhist trading centre with a hilltop palace, monasteries and desert mountain scenery.

Leh stands at about 3,500 metres in the Indus Valley, with bare brown mountains around it and snow ranges behind. The nine-storey Leh Palace, built in the 17th century in the style of the Potala in Lhasa, overlooks the old town, and the Namgyal Tsemo monastery crowns the ridge above it. The Shanti Stupa, a white-domed peace pagoda, has views across the valley.

Top-ranked sights in Leh: Pangong Lake (Pangong Tso), Thiksey Monastery, Confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers.
