Itinerario
The Orchha Fort complex, which houses a large number of ancient monuments consisting of the fort, palaces, temple and other edifices, is located in the Orchha town in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
There are 14 Chhatris built on the banks of the Betwa River, in the memory of the rulers of Orchha. This bearer of the melancholic ruins is a not to be missed tourist destination.
Built in the honour of Mughal Emperor Jahangir, the palace is decked every bit with royal appeal Built by Raja Bir Singh Deo in the seventeenth century, this grand palace has plenty of historical appeals. The walls of the palace are carved in strong lines, counterbalanced by delicate chhatris and trellis work, giving it a sparkly look of medieval times. Being a focal point of the visit for tourists, the monument conveys an effect of extraordinary richness.
Ram Raja Temple is the only temple in India where Rama is worshipped as a king in a palace. According to legends, the queen Ganesh Kunwari wife of the King of Orchha Madhukar Shah Ju Dev took a vow that she would go to Ayodhya and return with the child form of Ram or else she would drown herself in Ayodhya's Sarayu River. On reaching Ayodhya, the Queen started praying to Lord Ram near Sarayu River. The Queen fasted and prayed for about a month but Lord Ram did not appear, so eventually in despair, she jumped into the river at midnight. Just then something magical happened and Lord Ram appeared in child form in the Queen’s lap. Lord Ram told the queen that he was happy with her prayers and she could ask for a boon, at which the queen asked Ram to come with her in child form to Orchha. Ram agreed to go but he put forth three conditions: “I will travel only in Pukh Nakshatra. Secondly, once I reach Orchha, I will be the King of Orchha. Thirdly, the first place you seat me will be my final place of stay and will be famous by the name of Ramraja.“
An exceptional blend of temple and fort architecture, Laxmi Narayan Temple was constructed during the reign of Raja Bir Singh Deo, with lime mortar and bricks. The frescos and paintings within the walls of the temple are a blend of Mughal and Bundel forms of art. These frescos illustrate certain social and secular themes. Inside, the carvings are displayed in a geometrical pattern and there are scenes from the life of Lord Krishna, adorned with flowers and animals.

About Orccha
Orchha is a small medieval town on the Betwa River in Madhya Pradesh, with palaces, soaring temples and royal cenotaphs from the Bundela dynasty.
Orchha was the capital of the Bundela rulers from the sixteenth century, set on an island and bank of the Betwa River in Madhya Pradesh. A stone causeway leads to the palace complex, where the Jahangir Mahal, built in the seventeenth century by Bir Singh Deo to welcome the Mughal emperor, rises in tiers of balconies and domes, and the Raj Mahal holds painted walls.
