1. Pompeii archaeological ruins are famous worldwide for being a unique example of a two thousand years old city, frozen in time. And the first ever documented natural catastrophe in history. This city was covered by ashes during an unexpected eruption, on the 24th October 79 AD and it remained underneath, till the XVIII century, when little by little it was brought to light. Monuments as the Forum, the Amphitheatre, the private houses and all the other findings show us, not only the physical places where life took place, but also satisfy any curiosity about the habits of what was an incredibly modern society, 'till telling us private people's stories.

About Pompeii

Pompeii is a Roman town near Naples frozen in ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD 79, with streets, villas and frescoes preserved beneath the volcano.

Pompeii was a thriving Roman town when Vesuvius buried it under ash and pumice in AD 79. Excavation, begun in the eighteenth century, has uncovered paved streets with stepping stones, shops, bakeries, bathhouses and the forum. The amphitheatre, among the oldest Roman ones to survive, and the grand House of the Faun show the range of life, and plaster casts of the dead record the final moments of some residents.
