About 5 km away from the historic center of Piazza Armerina, with its "fishbone" structure that gives originality to its urban layout you will explore The Villa del Casale, built between the III and the VI century AD, and part of the UNESCO heritage since 1996. Villa del Casale represents one of the most magnificent testimonies of the late Roman age, rich of architectural and decorative elements.
In Caltagirone you will visit the ancient Cal’at Ghiran, or the Castello dei Vasi, a name that underlines the centrality of ceramics and majolica production typical of Caltagirone. A tour of the historic center will make you appreciate the beauty of buildings and monuments such as: Palazzo Gravina, the Norman basilica of San Giacomo, the cathedral of San Giuliano, Corte Capitaniale, Tondo Vecchio, to culminate with the spectacular staircase of Santa Maria del Monte composed of 142 steps covered by majolica that connect the upper part to the lower part of the city.
