In evidenza
Presented by the team from Willie Creek Pearls, this unique 1.5 hour tour offers a guided commentary on Broome’s fascinating pearling history. Travel back in time to an era of courageous people who lived a life of danger, fortune and adventure both on and off the water. Guests are captivated as 150 years of Broome’s unique maritime and pearling heritage is uncovered in the very environment where the history was made – amongst the mangroves on the foreshore of Roebuck Bay’s Dampier Creek. Pearl Luggers is located right in the heart of Broome’s Chinatown and features a fully rigged and restored pearl lugger, the vessel synonymous with Broome, surrounded by a reconstructed tidal jetty and authentic pearlers store. It is without doubt the closest link to the pearling era of long ago where daily life ebbed and flowed with the comings and goings of the great pearl luggers fleet.

5Pearl Luggers - An amazing history of the Pearling Industry
Visited Pearl Luggers in Dampier Terrace, Broome, for the local tour and presentation. This was a great experience as we knew very little of the amazing Pearling Industry and it's history in Broome. The presentations, historic museum artifacts, the luggers and pearl demonstrations were very informative and interesting. The tour concluded with oyster meat tasting, oyster opening, and visit of the showroom to see the finished pearls and lovely jewelry. A great experience and step back in time to the tough and dangerous days of the amazing pearl divers and the effort and persistence to build the industry and the town of Broome.
5Great value and learn a thing or 3
Great little tour in heart of Broome to understand the history of pearling and the town itself. Good value for money and would def recommend for anyone that hits town.
5Don't miss this tour in Broome
Wonderful experience that explained the history of the pearling industry in Broome. A mix of lecture and historical objects, with an original film from the 1940s and pearl meat tasting at the end. This was followed by an opening of an (unseeded ) oyster expected to contain a pearl. The guide Lili was passionate and inspiring.
5Great experience
Very informative sessions and tasting included plus knowledge about how pearls are valued.

About Broome
Broome is a pearling town on the Kimberley coast of Western Australia, known for camel trains on Cable Beach, red cliffs and enormous tides.
Broome sits on a red-earth peninsula between Roebuck Bay and the Indian Ocean, a pearling port since the 1880s whose Chinatown streets still hold pearl shops and old tin-roofed buildings. Divers from Japan, China, Malaya and the Philippines worked the luggers here, and the Japanese cemetery records the men who died at sea. Sun Pictures, an open-air cinema dating from 1916, still shows films under the stars.
Top-ranked sights in Broome: Cable Beach, Horizontal Falls, Gantheaume Point.
