Itinerario
Jvari Monastery is a 6th-century Georgian Orthodox church located on a hilltop overlooking the town of Mtskheta. Its name means “Monastery of the Cross,” as it was built on the site where Saint Nino erected a wooden cross to mark Georgia’s conversion to Christianity. A masterpiece of early medieval architecture, Jvari offers breathtaking panoramic views of the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Mtskheta is one of Georgia’s oldest cities and its former capital, often referred to as the spiritual heart of the country. It is home to the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, an 11th-century masterpiece of Georgian architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cathedral is considered one of the most sacred places in Georgia, believed to house the robe of Christ. With its rich history, religious significance, and stunning design, Svetitskhoveli remains an active center of worship and a must-visit landmark.
Samtavro Church is a historic monastery complex in Mtskheta, dating back to the 4th century and later rebuilt in the 11th century. It is known as the place where Saint Nino lived and preached Christianity to the Georgian people. The church is also the burial site of King Mirian and Queen Nana, the first Christian monarchs of Georgia. Surrounded by peaceful gardens, Samtavro remains an active convent and a place of deep spiritual significance.

About Tbilisi
Top-ranked sights in Tbilisi: Metekhi Church, Narikala Fortress, Tbilisi Old Town (Dzveli Tbilisi).
