1. Join the Earl of Thomond for a glorious banquet at this majestic 15th century Bunratty Castle. The Butler welcomes guests, toasting an era of great Irish taste with excellent food, fine wine, and honey mead. A kilted piper plays a tune of welcome as you cross the drawbridge to the 'Bite of Friendship' offered by a Hostess. In the Great Hall, resplendent with tapestries, savor a goblet of Mead while mingling with the Ladies of the Castle. The Castle's history is told, followed by a medieval Madrigal, and the crowning of the Earl & Lady, before descending to the Banquet Hall, where bench seating, candle-light, and oak tables reflect medieval style. Enjoy a sumptuous four-course dinner with fine wines, while the Ladies sing to Irish Harp and Fiddle. The Butler seeks the Lord's approval for each dish - but a scoundrel is revealed and brought before the Earl to face his fate. A 35-minute selection of Irish medieval music follows dinner. The evening lasts two and a half hours.

• 5Excellent, highly recommended!

  AMAZING experience and highly recommended. Your tickets get you a reduced entry fee to the village around the castle, I recommend going at least 1.5h early to experience all of the things to see. The tallest parts of the castle close at 4pm, so if you want to get all the way to the top, do that first, then go see everything else and circle back to the castle for supper. The food was exceptional. It’s always hit or miss with entertainment dinners about whether the food is any good. In this case I would have gone just for the food. It was resturant quality (just without the cutlery). Also, they were incredibly accommodation for my food allergies, which I was unsure of before going in. It means I didn’t have to skip any of the four courses, they just brought me something slightly different. The entertainment was wonderful. The music was exceptional, the singing magical, I really enjoyed the fiddler. You are sitting banquet style for the meal, which was also nice as I got to chat with both of my neighbours on either side. Overall, one of the most memorable moments of our trip. If you are considering going, stop and just book the tickets. Seriously. You won’t be disappointed. Did I mention unlimited wine and a mead tasting? Yeah!

• 4Brilliant but drinks could be better

  The entertainment was wonderful, the musicians & singers were excellent. The food was piping hot and very good. The FAQs regarding the banquet states mead wine or water throughout but they weren’t keen on providing the mead saying it’s just a welcome drink. The wine was sharp and not easy to drink in my opinion. Couldn’t fault the food or entertainment. If mead isn’t allowed during the banquet this needs to be made clearer on the FAQs.

• 5Fun night

  Very entertaining night. Lots of laughs & good food. We had the 8.30 sitting & enjoyed every aspect. The music, the singing & the stories were amazing.

  This was such a fun evening in a beautiful setting. There was a lot of food so be prepared for that. The people acting their parts were terrific, talented musicians with beautiful voices.

  Great dinner with entertainment! Definitely recommend. There are steep circular stairways to navigate. They do have handicapped access to the main dining room, but not all the levels

About Shannon

Shannon is a modern town in County Clare on the Shannon Estuary, home to Shannon Airport and a base for the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher.

Shannon was laid out in the 1960s as a new town for the workers of the nearby airport, which began life as a stopover for transatlantic flights. The town itself is modern and low-rise, with parks and housing estates, but it stands on the northern bank of the wide Shannon Estuary, in a landscape of fields, wetlands and old tower houses.
