  2. Kingston City Hall was completed in 1844, with its scale and design reflective of Kingston's status as the capital of the Province of Canada at that time. The architect chosen for the project in 1841 was George Browne, and the building was believed to be one of Browne's most outstanding works. The building was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1961

  3. The Kingston Public Market is the oldest market in Ontario and has been providing food and a sense of community to residents of Kingston since 1801.

  4. We share why Hochelaga Inn, built in 1879 for John McIntyre, a prominent Kingston lawyer and mayor, is our favourite haunted hotel in the city!

  5. The building was constructed in 1890 as The Chalmers Free Presbyterian Church. It was renamed to Chalmers United Church in 1925 with the creation of the United Church of Canada. It has a great ghost story!

  6. With its congregation dating to 1783, the Cathedral is associated with the first organized Anglican parish in Ontario. Started in 1825, St. George's replaced a smaller structure built a short distance away in 1792. The core of the existing church was built of stone to the design of Kingston architect Thomas Rogers in 1825. The building was substantially enlarged in the 1840s with the addition of a nave bay, a large clock tower and an entrance portico comprised of a pediment supported by four columns. Completely gutted by fire in 1899, the church was quickly rebuilt under the direction of Joseph Power & Son. In 1975, the City of Kingston designated the church under the Ontario Heritage Act and, in 1981, the Ontario Heritage Trust secured a heritage easement on the building.

  • 4Fun Evening in Kingston

Our family participated in the traditional haunted walk in Kingston. Our guide Wesley was excellent and she was easy to hear and understand. The distance of the walk was just right and provided the chance to see some of the beautiful architecture old Kingston has to see. Overall recommended for a fun evening out.

  • 5Spooky walk of old Kingston

Amy was our guide - she gave us a great spooky tour of old Kingston. Saw lots of highlights we never would’ve found ourselves. And we actually double booked by mistake and that went out of their way to correct it so we didn’t pay twice. Thanks guys, great tour!

  • 5Seeing Canada’s History!!

We purchased the 72hour K-Pass. Best for our time here. We were able to book our tour for Friday. Loved the trolley. Not the same as the daytime runs. This was painted black. Richard was our guide, who we'd had as our guide that day as well as Bruce who was our guide of Kingston on Wednesday! What a nice surprise! The tour started with our first ghost!!! Surprise!! The tour guide takes you all over Kingston telling stories of people who have died and souls who are most likely NOT at rest. The tour includes actors portraying stories about individuals who lived and died in Kingston. Historic sites included Fort Henry, Rick wood Asylum and Kingston Penitentiary. I definitely recommend purchasing the Kpass to see all of the sites, museums, and the Ghost tour!!

About Kingston

Kingston is a limestone city on Lake Ontario where the St Lawrence River begins, with a fort, a historic downtown, a waterfront and the Thousand Islands.

Kingston sits where Lake Ontario drains into the St Lawrence River, at the head of the Thousand Islands, in eastern Ontario. It was briefly the first capital of the united Province of Canada, from 1841 to 1844, and its limestone buildings, including a domed City Hall from the 1840s, give it the nickname Limestone City.
