The heart and soul of Portugal during Medieval times. Guimarães, once a capital, is best described as the birthplace of Portugal and where the first king - Afonso Henriques - was born. However, Guimarães is much more than the well-renowned 10th-century castle. The old town encompasses 14th-century buildings, a previous Jewish quarter, defensive and military structures against the Moors during the Dark Ages, and much more. About Braga
Braga is a historic city in northern Portugal, known for its cathedral, Holy Week processions and the baroque stairway of Bom Jesus do Monte.

The old centre has pedestrian streets, squares and the Arco da Porta Nova, a baroque gateway; the Biscainhos Museum is set in an eighteenth-century palace, and the Santa Bárbara garden has neat hedges and flowerbeds.
