About Darwin
Darwin, capital of the Northern Territory, is a tropical harbour city on the Timor Sea and the gateway to Kakadu and Litchfield national parks.
Darwin lies on a deep natural harbour on Australia's northern coast, nearer to Indonesia than to most Australian cities. It was bombed by Japanese aircraft in February 1942 and flattened by Cyclone Tracy on Christmas Eve 1974, so most of the centre is modern. The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory tells that story alongside Aboriginal art and natural history.
Top-ranked sights in Darwin: Adelaide River , Magnetic Termite Mounds, Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT).
