4. Climb Mount Serrat in a funicular cable car, visit the old casino and the church dedicated to the city's patron saint. All steeped in history and offering incredible views of the city. You can go up by stairs, free of charge, or by taking the funicular tram. Tram tickets are paid separately at the attraction's ticket office.

About Santos

Santos is the busy port city of São Paulo state, with a long beachfront garden, old trams, a coffee museum and the football club where Pelé played.

Santos lies on São Vicente island, where the Serra do Mar mountains drop to the Atlantic. Its port, the largest in Latin America, has shipped coffee since the nineteenth century, and the old Coffee Exchange now houses the Museu do Café, with a stained-glass hall and a trading floor. Pelé spent most of his career with Santos FC, and a museum in a restored nineteenth-century mansion tells his story.
